Mix It Up: Easy Ways to Turn Everyday Filter Coffee and Chai into Party Hits

A good party drink does more than quench your thirst. It becomes part of the conversation, the little detail guests remember and the reason someone asks, “What’s in this?”
Chai and filter coffee are already part of our everyday rituals. But with a few thoughtful ingredients, they can become something completely different — refreshing, festive and perfect for entertaining.
This Diwali, give your favorite Indian brews a party-ready twist with two easy chai and coffee recipes made for sharing.
1. Saffron Chai Cream Cooler
Chai doesn’t always have to arrive steaming hot in a cup. This chilled version brings together the warmth of masala chai with saffron, vanilla and a creamy finish.
Ingredients
* 2 Old Harbor Masala Tea Bags
* ¾ cup water
* ½ cup milk
* 3–4 saffron strands
* 1 lightly crushed cardamom pod
* 1 tsp honey or sugar
* ¼ tsp vanilla extract
* Ice
* A few chopped pistachios for garnish
Method
Bring the water, milk, cardamom and saffron to a gentle simmer. Turn off the heat, add the Old Harbor Masala Tea Bags and cover for 5 minutes.
Remove the tea bags and cardamom. Stir in honey and vanilla, then allow the chai to cool completely.
Fill a glass with ice and pour over the chilled chai. Finish with chopped pistachios and a few saffron strands.
The result is creamy, aromatic and unmistakably Indian — but served in a way that feels right at a festive gathering.
2. Jaggery Orange Filter Coffee
Filter coffee already has a deep, roasted character. Add jaggery for caramel-like sweetness and a little orange zest for brightness, and you have a surprisingly elegant festive coffee.
Ingredients
* 2 tbsp Old Harbor Filter Coffee 85:15
* 150 ml hot water
* 100 ml milk
* 1–2 tsp grated jaggery
* 2 small strips of fresh orange zest
* A pinch of cinnamon
* Ice, if serving chilled
* Orange peel for garnish
Method
Prepare a strong coffee decoction using Old Harbor Filter Coffee.
Warm the milk with jaggery, orange zest and cinnamon over low heat until the jaggery dissolves and the milk becomes fragrant. Remove the orange zest.
For a warm version, pour the coffee decoction into a cup and add the spiced jaggery milk. Mix well and finish with a small twist of orange peel.
For a party-style cold coffee, allow the mixture to cool, pour it over ice and serve in a clear glass.
The boldness of filter coffee works beautifully with the deeper sweetness of jaggery, while orange adds a bright festive note.
Make the Brew Part of the Celebration
The beauty of entertaining is that you don’t need an elaborate drinks menu. One thoughtfully made chai and one creative coffee can give your guests something familiar with a completely new personality.
Serve the chai in small glasses for an elegant evening drink and the coffee in chilled glasses for a more contemporary presentation. Add simple garnishes — saffron, pistachios or orange peel — and let the flavors do the talking.
After all, the best Diwali drinks are not always the most complicated ones. Sometimes, they are the drinks we already love, simply reimagined for the occasion.
