Earl Grey stands or falls on the bergamot, and most fall. Ours is scented rather than drenched: enough citrus oil to lift the tea and perfume the cup, not so much that it turns soapy by the third sip. The base is a clean black tea chosen because it carries the aroma instead of fighting it.
Tasting notes. Bright bergamot citrus over a smooth black tea base, with a fragrant, lingering finish.
How to brew?
Steep one bag in 200 ml of freshly boiled water for three minutes. Best taken black, or with a slice of lemon. A splash of milk works, but it mutes the bergamot.
What is inside. Black tea with natural bergamot flavouring. [Confirm the flavouring declaration against pack artwork.]
The tea bag. Staple-free, naturally crimped filter paper, individually enveloped so the bergamot aroma is intact when you open it.
QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Should Earl Grey be drunk with milk? Traditionally no. Bergamot is a delicate citrus aroma and milk flattens it. Lemon or nothing at all shows the tea best.
Is Earl Grey caffeinated? Yes, it is a black tea. For an evening cup, try our Tulsi Green or Turmeric Ginger instead.
