What is cold brewing & how to do it?
Cold brewing tea is an extremely quick & an easy process to give you a smooth and naturally cold tea making it the perfect go-to drink for the scorching days.
- Cold-brewing tea is a comparatively healthy as you can control everything you add to the drink
- Is low in caffeine compared to hot tea.
- Works with nearly any kind tea.
Cold brewing can be done in a couple of ways, a few of which are explained in this blog.
Brewing approach #1: Brewing all night (8-12 hours)
Perfect for brewing a bigger batch.
- In a glass jar/bottle (750-1000 ml) add water
- Add 11/2 tbsp of loose tea or 3 tea bags to a jar/jug
- Keep it in the refrigerator through the night
- Strain out the leaves/ remove the bags the following morning
- Add some crushed or sliced fruit and sweetener of your choice
You can now enjoy your cold tea!
You can also use a kettle or a French press for cold brewing loose tea in this process.
Brewing approach #2: ice brewing or kouridashi-style brewing
Takes about 30 min’s, perfect for instant brewing a medium sized batch.
- Fill the glass jar (750 ml) halfway with ice
- Add 1 tbsp loose tea / 2 tea bags to the jar
- Add ½-1 glass of water to initiate the ice melting
- After 30 minutes strain out the leaves/ remove the tea bags
- Add some crushed or sliced fruit and sweetener of your choice
You can now enjoy your tea!
Brewing approach #3: ice brewing for one glass
Takes only 7-10 minutes, perfect for immediate consumption.
- Fill up 1/4th of your glass with ice
- To that add 1-11/2 tsp of loose tea or 1 tea bags
- Pour little water over it to initiate the melting of ice
- After 7-10 minutes strain out the leaves/ remove the bag
- Add some crushed or sliced fruit and sweetener of your choice
